Over the years, Twitter has steadily grown to become a social media giant. Now, the website averages 310 million active users per month. Here we are going to share the origins of Twitter.

Unlike Facebook, Twitter is a microblog. Microblogs are social media websites that allow users to make short and frequent posts. It limits its users to 140-characters per tweet.

It allows people to get real-time updates about the things they care about. Many people use it to get information, whether it’s news or celebrity gossip. According to a study conducted by the American Press Institute, 86 percent of users stated that they use it to get news.

Another way for users to follow topics is to use hashtags. A hashtag is the use of a pound symbol followed by a word or phrase. This becomes a searchable link that allows users to find information.

Throughout the years, it has evolved. Twitter is not limited to text alone. Twitter allows tweets to contain images, videos, and live videos. Twitter has also created features to insert polls and gifs into tweets. The site is steadily evolving and remains a prominent social media platform.

A quarter of online adults use it. Although this number is not as large as the number of users who use Facebook, Twitter history shows that it is an excellent platform in which to promote your brand online.
